We caught up with a few of our Helping Hands Scholarship winners from previous years and wanted to know what they were up to today.  We are pleased to share with you some excerpts from their comments.

Rachel just finished her first year at Queen’s where she made “new friends and new memories”.  Rachel is majoring in computer science and specializing in biomedical computing.   This summer Rachel is “working with one of (her) professors on segmentation of post-operation data from a knee cartilage reconstruction surgery. (She) is also excited to be the mental health coordinator for the computing student’s association at Queens”.

Alicia has graduated from the Early Education program at Mohawk College.  Alicia commented that she is now “working full time as a preschool Montessori teacher and continuing (her) education further through online courses. Thanks to the (scholarship)for being a large part of my success and getting (her) to where (she is) today!”

Hannah’s enthusiasm is quite apparent as she tells us about her first year out west at Prairie College in her Intercultural field. She spent some time studying in Mazambique, South Africa this past year and learning about the culture while being immersed in it.  Hannah wrote that she “would have to say that I have never had anything as positively impactful as this first year of school was for me.  This first year of school will be something that will have forever changed me positively, and I know I will still look back on the impact it had on my life in the many years to come.

We are quite pleased to catch up with some of our previous Scholarship winners and no surprise to us they are each doing very well in their chosen fields.  Congratulations to them - we wish them all the best in their future endeavours!

P.S.  Our Scholarship deadline has passed and we are looking forward to marking the students’ essays and the winners will be announced soon!
