The #1 Reason Why You Don't Have a Will

PROCRASTINATION!

We've all experienced it in many aspects of our lives, some more often than others.  Especially when it comes to things we don't want to do, or don't know how to do - we simply put it off.  Estate planning documents such as Wills and Powers of Attorney definitely fall into this category.

Take the time to make sure your family is taken care of when you pass on and not left with an estate nightmare.  We work with families on a regular basis - some are fortunate enough to be left with well-organized estates, and some are not.  Dealing with an organized estate or a messy one is not easy, but having the documents completed properly and knowing your loved one's specific wishes will make it much easier.

Three Things to Do NOW

  1. Have the conversation (albeit a difficult one) with your loved ones and determine who you want to look after your affairs when you are no longer capable of doing so.
  2. Gather pertinent information to prepare your estate planning documents.
  3. Book a meeting with a lawyer and start the process to draft these documents. Follow through on the final completion.

Start this process for your loved ones today.  If you don't know where to turn, start asking questions of people you trust - your financial planner, accountant, a trusted friend or family member - someone will point you in the direction of a professional to look after this very important aspect of your life.
